HOW TO

On this page we will present selected videos and other media that may help you get a better idea about the HOW TO of various topics including Canning, Gardening, Using Basic Foods, Bread Making, Fermenting and anything else we get a request for or feel impressed to add.  Please realized that this is a growing site so there will be more information as we have time to add it.   Also know that these are only examples of sites we found in a google search and the site may be trying to sell something to you.  We do not profit nor are we trying to profit from any of these sites.  They are here for information only and you should do your own research before buying things.  We have tried to give you ideas that you can do on your own.  If you have favorite videos or YouTube channels about a topic here, or if you would like to see other topics please let us know and we will consider adding them.

Favorite YouTube Channels and Playlists

In the material below the top heading link is to the channel page where all playlists are displayed.
The playlist link is to the specific playlist pictured.

Remember all you have to do is go to YouTube and ask about what you want to learn.  (Remember, not everybody is reliable)  Also experiment with the speed of your video.  You can change the speed on the settings wheel in most videos.  Some things are not going to apply to our area but other things are good at certain times of year and not at others.  Be wise.  Use what you can and look around for more info.  This page is really just a starting place and consists of things that We (the editors) have used to learn new skills.

Living Traditions Homestead

These are my favorite homesteaders.  They have lots of information about lots of things.  Sometimes you learn most from what didn’t work for them.

Living Traditions Homestead

They started in Gilbert and are now in Missouri.  I have learned a lot from them.  Some of it is not  applicable here.  Be sure to check out the individual gardening videos in the Gardening Section below.  They may be more relevant

Living Traditions Homestead

Lots of different things in here.  From hamburger buns to making lard and goat cheese (I know you may not have goats so look below for the cheese from powdered milk)

Living Traditions Homestead

There are lots of canning videos on line.  Remember all you have to do is go to YouTube and ask about what you want to learn.  Also experiment with the speed of your video.  I always change the speed.  Learn how to do it or ask on youtube and there will be a video about it.

Growing in Arizona is not the same as growing elsewhere.  Some tips and tricks work, where ever you are but some things are location specific.  This channel has a gardening playlist specific to zone 9a .  That is us.

Lots of good things from this guy.  He is in Australia but his information is valid for anywhere.  Be sure to remember, the top link in this square is for his channel playlists in total.  The second link (The Playlist link) is for a specific playlist.

This channel is done by a guy who is specifically growing on a small suburban lot.  There is lots of good info.

Dave Wilson Orchard

Growing fruit in the backyard is different than growing in a commercial orchard.  You can and need to do things differently.  Learn here.  Remember to speed things up by clicking of the settings wheel and changing the speed to a faster speed if you want to and need to.

This is a great channel for gardening in a suburban yard.  Unlike the Living Traditions Homestead, this channel is dedicated to small spaces and gardening in the best way possible to get the greatest yield from the smallest space.

He specifically concentrates on one or two plants in each video.  Good material.  There are a lot more playlists on his channel than shown here.  You may want to check out some of the others.

This is one of the best gardening channels I have seen and it is from a gal that lives in Mesa.  This is all about growing in Arizona.

This is an expanding area. If you have a favorite site about Basic Self-Reliance Skills like you see above or below, let us know and we will look at them and see if we can add them.
